Blood donors receive BOGO T-shirt for free pie
Blood donors are used to receiving a T-shirt when they donate, but now the T-shirt will serve another purpose. Blood donors will become a walking coupon when they dine-in at any Bill Miller restaurant wearing the BOGO T-shirt.
The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center, a subsidiary of BioBridge Global, has partnered with Bill Miller to thank blood donors again, as all presenting donors in February and March will receive a T-shirt that entitles them to a free slice of pie with the purchase of a combo meal.
The recent icy weather in January, as well as a drop in donations because of the flu, have affected the community blood supply dramatically. STBTC hopes the continued partnership will further encourage volunteers to donate blood, especially now, when blood donors are vitally needed to ensure a stable blood supply for patients and hospitals in San Antonio and neighboring communities.
“This continued partnership is a wonderful way to express our thanks to our volunteer donors,” said Elizabeth Waltman, COO of the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center. “We need approximately 400 units of blood a day to ensure our community has an adequate blood supply. Unfortunately, in the month of January we collected 20 percent less than what is needed for a reliable, community blood supply.
“Between weather-related challenges and flu season, we faced a lot of hurdles,” she added. “I feel confident the community will rally behind us and continue supporting community hospitals with their blood donations.”
Not a T-shirt fan? Not a problem. Blood donors will receive a coupon for the same thank-you gift if they elect not to take a T-shirt.
Those interested in scheduling a donation may visit SouthTexasBlood.org to find a mobile drive convenient to them. They also can visit one of seven donor rooms in San Antonio, New Braunfels or call 210-731-5590 for more information.
Donors must present identification. Anyone who is 16 years old and weighs at least 120 pounds (with parental consent form), or 17 years old and above and weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health may donate blood. All donors receive refreshments, a wellness check and are encouraged to eat well before and after donation. Learn more about blood donation at www.SouthTexasBlood.org.
