Type O Blood Donors Urgently Needed

O, We Need You!

Patients across South Texas are needing Type O blood transfusions at record levels, while donations have dropped due to spring break. We need your help!

You're Special

We think you’re amazing. Why? Because Type O blood donors like you have a unique superpower.

You have it within you to save lives, providing transfusions for trauma patients, newborns and cancer fighters.

How? O Negative blood can be transfused to ANY patients of all blood types. But it is always in great demand and often in short supply. O Positive blood is used more and more to give in traumas when O-negatives are in short supply.

This is why we receive more requests from hospitals for Type O blood than any other.

Recently, these same hospitals have begun to return to their normal surgery schedules. This means they are requesting more Type O blood to support patients – a 45% increase from last year.

We’re asking all Type O donors to make an appointment to give blood today as our supply is dangerously low, less than a day’s supply. What does this mean for South Texas? That lives are seriously at risk. But you have the power to make a difference.

Schedule an appointment to donate blood at the locations below. As our thank you, all presenting Type O donors in March will receive:

All blood donations will undergo a COVID-19 antibody test from March 1-31. Results will be available online within a week after your donation. Learn more at SouthTexasBlood.org/Testing.

About Us

For more than 45 years, the nonprofit South Texas Blood & Tissue Center has focused on a critical purpose: to save and improve lives.

Inspired by a group of physicians, our organization was formed to provide blood to the South Texas region – ensuring a safe and adequate blood supply through proper testing, storage and distribution to hospitals. This essential service allows front-line workers to focus on the direct care of patients, with confidence that this lifesaving resource will be there when it’s needed most.

But we didn’t stop there. Over the years, we’ve evolved as the needs of our patients and hospitals have changed, driven to save lives in as many ways as possible.

We couldn’t do this without donors like you. We understand that the gift of donation is a personal, powerful choice that has the potential to touch a life. Today, we offer many ways to make a difference that include:

Our team has also expanded its programs, partnering with leaders within the healthcare industry to develop a wide range of therapies.
