SAN ANTONIO – In early October South Texas Blood & Tissue announced that it was giving one lucky lifesaving blood donor the chance to feel the thrill of Formula 1 under the neon lights of Las Vegas.
Donors who made a blood donation at any South Texas Blood & Tissue Donor Center from Oct. 5th – Nov. 5th, were entered to win the Fast Track to Vegas Package that included:
- $500 Southwest Airlines gift card
- Hotel accommodation at Caesars Palace
- 2 F1Grand Prix Las Vegas race tickets
UPDATE: We have our winner! Edward Huron, a Bexar County District 7 Fire Captain officially received his prize on Nov. 12.
A regular blood donor for over a decade, Huron donates every four months and says his service in the frontlines motivates him to keep giving.
“In this line of work, you see firsthand how blood donations save lives,” Huron said. “If you’re healthy you have nothing to lose, but someone else might have something to gain.”
Just like pit crews keep their drivers on track, blood donors keep patients alive. Right now, 1 in 7 hospital patients need a blood transfusion. As the holidays approach and flu season picks up, donations start to slow down, and patients can’t afford delays.
