Save Your City! Give Blood.

We're calling on our South Texas community to give blood and help prevent a secondary public health emergency.

The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center will be hosting an appointment-only community blood drive at the San Antonio Shrine Auditorium on Sunday, May 24 through Tuesday, May 26.

Holding a blood drive at the San Antonio Shrine Auditorium, by appointment only, will provide the space and a controlled flow of donors that will allow us to follow social distancing guidelines, with adequate space between check-in areas, chairs, donor beds, etc.

How STBTC is keeping donors safe

Below you will also find the safety protocols we've implemented at every blood drive and donor room. For more information about the coronavirus, visit: SouthTexasBlood.org/Coronavirus

  • Temperature check prior to check-in.

  • If a donor doesn't have a mask at check-in, one will be offered.

  • Additional hand sanitation stations at check-in and throughout the donation process.

  • Staff members change gloves and sanitize surfaces in the screening area between donors as well as wear masks as recommended by the CDC.

  • Potential donors are asked questions concerning recent travel as well as given a mini-physical.

  • Individuals who meet travel, evaluation or potential exposure criteria identified by the CDC over the course of the past 28 days are advised not to donate. This is being done as a cautionary measure since respiratory viruses are not known to be transmitted by blood donation or transfusion.

  • Donor beds are sanitized after each donation.

  • Each donation collection kit is new, single-use and unopened until the time of use.

  • STBTC staff have been instructed to remain home if they are ill, until 24 hours after a fever has resolved.

  • All our drives and donor rooms have information sheets about steps to take to help prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

  • STBTC staff have been instructed to avoid travel to locations where there are known outbreaks of COVID-19, and to self-quarantine, if they have visited a country the CDC has identified a site of a significant outbreak.

HOW TO HELP IF YOU CAN'T DONATE

If you are unable to donate, we kindly ask you to consider making a gift to the Alzafar Shriners of San Antonio, Texas.

A local Texas fraternity that is made up of over 16 counties of Shriner volunteers and families whose purpose is to fundraise to help provide the needed finances to provide transportation, lodging and meals to help children reach the various Shriners Hospitals for Children in Texas or in other states. Shriners Hospitals for Children provide orthopedic and/or emergency burn care to all children at no cost to them and their families.

Through the unselfish giving of people such as you:

The Alzafar Shriners are able to help thousands of families in Texas and in Mexico to get to Shriners hospitals for their appointments, surgeries and follow up visits.

We also help by providing ground and or emergency air transportation, plus lodging and meals.

Please help by making a donation to the Alzafar Hospital Transportation  Fund to help the children get the care they need.
