All of Us Research Program

South Texas Blood & Tissue is partnered with All of Us, a research program from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that aims to help speed up and improve health research.

All of Us is looking to recruit one million or more people across the U.S. to join. People who join will share information about their health, habits, and what it’s like where they live. Using this information, researchers can look for patterns and may learn more about what affects people’s health.

If you decide to participate, you can share health data online, fill out health surveys, and share electronic health records. You also may be asked to share physical measurements and blood and urine samples.

*You must be 18 years or older to participate.

FAQs

No. Signing up means you are interested in being contacted about potential research opportunities. Opportunities might include donating blood, specific types of blood cells, or more. If you are eligible for a study, you may be contacted by our staff, who will explain what the study involves. Participation is completely up to you.

It depends. You may get contacted immediately or it may take some time. It will vary if or when those that have joined the Registry are contacted. Some of our studies have strict criteria (age, blood type, etc.), and we will invite those that match the criteria to participate. For other studies, we will reach out to a large number of registrants in a random order until we have the number of participants required.

If you have not heard from us and would like to know what opportunities are currently available, you are always welcome to call or email our Research Department at 210-731-5589 or research@southtexasblood.org to learn what studies we have underway and if you’re eligible to participate.

Typically, the studies at South Texas Blood & Tissue involve the collection of blood, specific blood cells, or other blood components to be used in the development of new treatments and therapies or to help improve medical products or processes.

Your information is stored in a secure database and only a few restricted staff from STB&T will have access to your information. We will never sell your information to a third party without your consent.

Yes! At any one time, we are part of a number of different studies that each have their own, unique eligibility criteria. Many of them are open to everyone including current blood donors, those that have never donated blood before, and those that have been disqualified (also known as deferred donors.)

No. We are partners in research with therapy developers, biomedical researchers, and others who initiate the research study and collaborate with additional teams to conduct the work.

About Us

For more than 45 years, the nonprofit South Texas Blood & Tissue Center has focused on a critical purpose: to save and improve lives.

Inspired by a group of physicians, our organization was formed to provide blood to the South Texas region – ensuring a safe and adequate blood supply through proper testing, storage and distribution to hospitals. This essential service allows front-line workers to focus on the direct care of patients, with confidence that this lifesaving resource will be there when it’s needed most.

But we didn’t stop there. Over the years, we’ve evolved as the needs of our patients and hospitals have changed, driven to save lives in as many ways as possible.

We couldn’t do this without donors like you. We understand that the gift of donation is a personal, powerful choice that has the potential to touch a life. Today, we offer many ways to make a difference that include:

Our team has also expanded its programs, partnering with leaders within the healthcare industry to develop a wide range of therapies.
