Blood Services

The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) is a nonprofit community blood center that provides blood, plasma, platelets and other blood components to more than 100 hospitals and healthcare providers throughout Texas and beyond. As the largest blood supplier in the region, STBTC conducts hundreds of mobile blood drives each year and provides over 400,000 units of blood to our healthcare partners.

Our Products

We provide Red Blood Cells, Single Donor Platelets, Plasma, Cryoprecipitate, and Platelet Concentrate among other blood components for transfusion.

STBTC pioneered a Low-Titer O Whole Blood program used for emergencies, in pre-hospital settings.

In February 2020, STBTC became the first civilian blood center licensed by the FDA to provide Cold-Stored Platelets, which have a shelf-life of 14 days.

In response to the current pandemic, STBTC started collecting and providing COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma in April 2020.

We are also able to support Research Institutions by providing products such as Buffy Coats and other blood components.

STBTC provides transfusion services and crossmatching testing.
