BBG Advanced Therapies collects first cell donation on one-of-a-kind bus

Freezing temps take a toll on South Texas blood supply

Spurs fans can receive a ticket by helping restore blood supply Jan. 26–29

SAN ANTONIO – Cold weather and road conditions are disrupting blood drives and reducing blood donations across South Texas, at a time when patients still urgently need blood. As a result, the community blood supply is running low, and South Texas Blood & Tissue is asking the community to step up now to help rebuild the local inventory.

To thank donors for helping restore the blood supply, Spurs fans have one more chance to save lives and score a seat at the game. From Monday, Jan. 26, through Thursday, Jan. 29, anyone who donates blood at a South Texas Blood & Tissue donor center in the San Antonio area will receive a ticket to see the San Antonio Spurs take on the Orlando Magic on Feb. 1.

Donors must use promo code “TICKET” when scheduling to qualify for the offer.

Blood donations help patients every day, including accident victims, cancer patients, and individuals living with chronic blood disorders. One of those patients is 10-year-old Lyric, who is battling sickle cell disease. Lyric endures excruciating, crippling pain day and night that she describes as stabbing and so severe it causes her to scream. Blood transfusions are the only treatment that brings her relief.

“You’re doing more than you could even imagine as far as saving a life when you donate blood,” said Shanice, Lyric’s mother. “It affects people in so many ways. For sickle cell, it’s our lifeline.”
