South Texas Blood & Tissue is giving donors a chance to beat the heat at the movie theatre.
South Texas Blood & Tissue is giving the community the chance to join the ranks of Superman or the Fantastic Four by giving blood and be a hero for patients. As a thank you donors will receive a Santikos movie theatre ticket, 30-minute game card, $15 off bowling and $5 off large popcorn and drink when they donate at a Donor Center August 5 – 7.
The bundle is a thank you for donors during summer months, when blood donations drop.
Blood is used to help everyone from cancer patients to emergency trauma survivors, such as Scott Mussey. Scott had an accident while working on his farm. As Scott was cutting metal with a hand-held grinder, the disc exploded and shot through his arm,
severing nerves, muscles, tendons and blood vessels.
Scott lived out in the country, and by the time the EMS arrived, he had already lost half the blood in his body. A helicopter arrived to give him a blood transfusion to stabilize him. Without it, he would have died.
“I truly believe in my mind that early blood transfusions made a difference in me being alive and here today,” Scott said. “If I hadn’t received blood that quickly, my thought is I wouldn’t have made it, and if I did I would have more complications than I do.”
