South Texas Blood & Tissue and the San Antonio Food Bank are teaming up on a way to help blood donors multiply their good deeds during the holiday season.
The “Double Your Impact” initiative will allow blood donors to donate any of their South Texas Blood & Tissue Reward Store points to the San Antonio Food Bank through a link at the online Reward Store. The donation of points can be made anytime before Dec. 31.
The food bank will be able to turn 100 Reward Store points into 25 meals for South Texans.
“The Double Your Impact initiative is a way for us to replenish our blood supply and help fight hunger at the same time,” said Jay Podjenski, Director of Strategic Initiatives and Community Development, South Texas Blood & Tissue.
“We are already planning another dual drive for the summer months, another time when both the STB&T and the SAFB are in great need.”
Blood donations at the South Texas Blood & Tissue’s nine donor centers, as well as at community blood drives, are averaging around 400 a day. The center needs 600 donations a day to meet everyday medical needs such as cancer treatment, scheduled surgeries, and labor and delivery.
“Such a great opportunity for our team to give back. Our community is so good to us as we work our mission,” said Eric Cooper, President & CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank. “Joining in the Double Your Impact initiative allows our hunger fighters to give back in a special way. We love it!”
