South Texas Blood & Tissue (STB&T) is a nonprofit community blood center that provides blood, plasma, platelets and other blood components to more than 100 hospitals and healthcare providers throughout Texas and beyond. As the largest blood supplier in the region, STB&T conducts hundreds of mobile blood drives each year and provides over 400,000 units of blood to our healthcare partners.
We provide Red Blood Cells, Single Donor Platelets, Plasma, Cryoprecipitate, and Platelet Concentrate among other blood components for transfusion.
STB&T pioneered a Low-Titer O Whole Blood program used for emergencies, in pre-hospital settings.
In February 2020, STB&T became the first civilian blood center licensed by the FDA to provide Cold-Stored Platelets, which have a shelf-life of 14 days.
In response to the pandemic, STB&T started collecting and providing COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma in April 2020.
We are also able to support Research Institutions by providing products such as Buffy Coats and other blood components.
STB&T provides transfusion services and crossmatching testing.
