Special day celebrates those who give selflessly to help save lives
June 14 is World Blood Donor Day and South Texas Blood & Tissue is urging all eligible individuals to save lives through donation.
“World Blood Donor Day is an opportunity to thank our many donors who selflessly help save lives and encourage more people to start their own donation journey,” said Adrienne Mendoza, Chief Operating Officer of South Texas Blood & Tissue.
Countries around the globe celebrate World Blood Donor Day annually to raise awareness of the need for blood and to thank blood donors. Mexico is the sponsor country this year, and the theme is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives.”
As a thank-you to donors, the blood center is celebrating World Blood Donor Day on June 13-14. Donors will receive a voucher for a free car wash from the Wash Tub when they donate at San Antonio, New Braunfels or Boerne South Texas Blood & Tissue donor centers.
“This is a critical time for our blood supply. The need for blood continues, but the pace of donations traditionally slows during the summer months because there are no school drives and fewer donors are available because of travel,” Mendoza said. “World Blood Donor Day is the perfect opportunity to make an appointment to donate blood.”
Donors can schedule a donation by visiting SouthTexasBlood.org or calling 210-731-5590. While appointments are recommended, walk-in donations will also be accepted as space allows at donor centers.
