Iron Deficiency

Don’t let low iron levels bring you down. Use the following tips to help produce red blood cells as you prepare to donate again:

  • Choose Iron-Rich Foods. Between donations, you can help your body build and replenish its iron supply by adding more Vitamin C and iron-rich foods to your diet such as green, leafy vegetables, beans, dried fruit and red meat or seafood.
  • Supplements. If you are between 16-17 years of age, we suggest you take iron supplements or a multivitamin.
Global Blood Fund
You can make the blood supply safer worldwide. It’s as easy as donating your donor points to the Global Blood Fund. The nonprofit helps blood centers in the developing world with financial support, equipment, training and software.
Students

South Texas Blood & Tissue has a fun way for high school students to participate in blood donations and help make a difference:

  • The Honors Cord Program is designed specifically to acknowledge and honor the students who are making significant contributions to our community.
