South Texas blood donors can take part in world record for blood donations

150,000 lives could be saved globally from ‘Who is Hussain’ event

WHO:          This Saturday, blood donors can take part in helping Who is Hussain, a nonprofit community service organization based in the UK, break the world record for blood donations from a single group in a 24-hour period.

South Texas Blood & Tissue and blood centers across the world have partnered with Who is Hussain to increase blood donations and awareness through this global, one-day event.

Who is Hussain is calling the day #GlobalBloodHero and hopes to generate more than 50,000 blood donations, surpassing the current world record of 33,000 donations. With 50,000 blood donations, up to 150,000 lives could potentially be saved.

The organization hopes to bring awareness to the heroic act of blood donation at a time when centers across the world have seen a decline of donations.

Blood is needed by patients battling cancer and other blood diseases; it is also essential for people who are suffering from chronic diseases, receiving a transplant, undergoing surgeries, or have traumatic injuries.

WHAT:           Donors can make history and save lives by donating blood this Saturday. Start by making an appointment to donate by visiting SouthTexasBlood.org.

As an extra thank-you for those who take the time to give blood, donors will receive points to redeem in the in the donor store for eGift cards, South Texas Blood & Tissue merchandise, and much more.
