Donate blood, help provide free school supplies to thousands of children
South Texas Blood & Tissue and Communities in Schools of San Antonio (CIS) are partnering for the Double Your Impact initiative to help provide students with school supplies.
Through Double Your Impact, blood donors can donate the points they earn from their blood donations directly to Communities in Schools. The initiative will run through Aug. 15.
CIS, a nonprofit organization, serves 160 schools across 13 school districts in the greater Bexar County area. With its annual Stuff The Bus School Supply Drive, CIS aims to provide free school supplies to thousands of under-resourced students and families throughout the academic year.
“Communities in Schools has proven to be an invaluable partner and resource in our mission to provide comprehensive support to our students. Through our strong partnership with CIS, we are making a tangible and meaningful impact in our student’s lives, empowering them to thrive in their academic journeys,” said Dr. Jeanette Ball, Superintendent of the Southwest Independent School District.
“As someone who actively donates blood, it is truly inspiring to see the collaboration between two impactful organizations and witness the positive difference they are collectively making in our community.”
Back-to-school expenses can be difficult for many families and the blood supply is critically low, so blood donors can make a significant difference in our community by both donating blood at South Texas Blood & Tissue and the points they earn to Communities in Schools. The goal of the Double Your Impact initiative is to help Stuff the Bus with school supplies, which costs approximately $5,000.
“Communities in Schools have provided me with many opportunities,” said Emily Castillo, a former student with the Communities in Schools program, who is currently a junior at University of Texas in Austin. “They put me in contact with a counselor who has always provided me with resources throughout my academic journey. It is great that the organization continues to provide supplies to those in need and ensure that every student has the resources they require to thrive academically.”
