SAN ANTONIO — Football fans, this one is for you: Give blood at any donor center from now until Sept. 6 to score big. Schedule your donation and use promo code FOOTBALL to be entered into a drawing for two Dallas Cowboys lower-level tickets and a one-night stay at Gaylord Texan for the Sept. 20 game against the Washington Commanders.
Blood donations remain low after a difficult summer
Summer has been difficult for blood donations, and levels continue to stay low. Across the nation, communities are struggling with the shortages, including South Texas. Trends continue downward at a concerning pace.
As the weather cools down, this is a perfect chance to go to the extra yard to help save lives. One donation can help up to three people.
Type O blood donors are especially needed
Type O donors are especially needed, as O negative is the universal red blood cell donor. O positive is the most common blood type in South Texas, and certain units can be used in emergency situations.
South Texas Blood & Tissue is urging the community to give blood. Without the help of more people giving blood, hospitals may have to postpone or cancel upcoming surgeries, treatments, or make difficult decisions about patient care.
