DONOR WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN HOUSTON ASTROS TICKETS, CRUISE, AIRLINE TICKETS
Lucky blood donors may win four tickets to a Houston Astros game, a cruise gift card or $500 in airline tickets during South Texas Blood & Tissue’s August giveaway.
Anyone who donates blood in August will be entered into a drawing for a mini-vacation:
- Four Houston Astros baseball tickets for Sept. 20 with an overnight hotel stay in Houston
- Two Carnival Cruises $500 gift cards.
- A $500 Wanna Get Away gift card from Southwest Airlines.
In addition to a chance to win big, donors also will earn incentives and points to spend in the South Texas Blood & Tissue Reward Store.
South Texas Blood & Tissue is encouraging the community to participate in the 5 Million in 50 initiative: Reaching 5 million blood donations in its 50-year history. The milestone donation is projected for early September.
Siblings Jacob and Olivia Lozano are an example of the ongoing need for blood donations, as they are living with sickle cell disease. The 18- and 15-year-olds need blood transfusions every four weeks to keep up with marching band and pep squad. Without the transfusions, they would be in constant pain that at times sends them to the hospital.
“I know blood shortages are very real and it’s only a matter of time before we experience shortages,” said Crystal Pawlik, Jacob and Olivia’s mom. “People must donate this. It isn’t something that can be. If there’s a shortage, if it’s not there, it’s not there.”
