More than 3,000 lives have been saved
Members of the San Antonio City Council are launching their annual friendly District Challenge competition, collaborating with South Texas Blood & Tissue to see which district can bring in the most blood donations.
The goal is to help patients like 2-year-old Cali, who relies on blood donors to survive and requires blood transfusions every four weeks. Her condition, thalassemia, prevents her body from producing hemoglobin, a vital component of red blood cells.
“I am so appreciative of blood donors as they truly save lives,” said Clarissa, Cali’s mother. “Cali would not survive without blood donations. There are no words to express the impact of someone who selflessly donates blood, as it is an incredible lifesaving act.”
To date, the District Challenge drives have collected more than 1,000 donations, benefiting more than 3,000 patients in the community.
As a token of appreciation, all donors will receive a limited-edition red tumbler from the South Texas Blood & Tissue.
