Four South Texas Blood & Tissue donors will claim a $500 H-E-B gift card from Nov. 24-27
This holiday season, four lucky South Texas Blood & Tissue donors will win a big H-E-B shopping spree. From Nov. 24-27, anyone who donates blood at a donor center will be entered into a drawing to win a $500 H-E-B gift card. One winner will be drawn each day.
As a bonus all donors who donate at a donor center during this time will receive a $10 H-E-B gift card in hand.
Holidays are the perfect time to donate blood since donations decline but the need never slows down.
Three-year-old Cali will need monthly blood transfusions for the rest of her life. She was diagnosed with alpha thalassemia major before being born. Thalassemia is a genetically inherited blood disorder where the body doesn’t make enough hemoglobin.
Doctors said baby Cali wouldn’t survive, but thanks to a clinical trial, Cali’s mom Clarissa was able to save her through intrauterine blood transfusions. Baby Cali was born weighing four pounds and had already received more than nine transfusions.
Cali has continued to defy the odds thanks to the generosity of blood donors. During this holiday season, donating blood is the best gift one can give. It cannot be bought, and it saves lives of thousands of South Texans every year.
“She’s our little miracle baby and deserves to experience the joys of life,” Clarissa said. “Blood donors are what’s keeping her alive and healthy. There aren’t enough words to express my gratitude because donating blood is such a lifesaving, selfless act. I’m eternally thankful to those who take the time to donate.”
