Annual blood drive honors “Pops” Lujan while helping South Texas patients and rewarding donors with pizza, gifts and more
SAN ANTONIO – Big Lou’s Pizza and South Texas Blood & Tissue are once again teaming up for the annual Big Lou’s Pizza blood drive, honoring founder “Pops” Lujan and encouraging the community to help save lives through blood donation.
On June 6, anyone who donates blood at Big Lou’s Pizza, 2048 S. W.W. White Road, will receive a 20-inch one-topping pizza, a special Big Lou’s Pizza commemorative T-shirt, a Stella Artois beer glass and a special South Texas Blood & Tissue insulated tote bag. The drive will run from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
The annual event has become a South Side tradition, bringing together blood donors, local businesses and families in support of patients who rely on lifesaving transfusions every day.
The long-lasting partnership between Big Lou’s Pizza and South Texas Blood & Tissue has helped save more than 10,000 lives.

- Pops was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, a rare but serious blood disorder that prevents the body from making blood cells and especially platelets, which are necessary to prevent infections and uncontrolled bleeding. He needed multiple transfusions, inspiring the family to host blood drives.
