She’s hardly out of black, white or gray clothes. But April is special for Jennifer Milton.
Donned in a flattering blue-and-green ensemble, she spoke during the Donate Life flag raising in front of the Headquarters Building on Monday.
It was the opening celebration of National Donate Life Month. This is the fifth year the organization hosted the ceremony, and this year it included multiple donor families. Despite cloudy weather, more than 50 people came to support the cause.
Jennifer has been one of the greatest minds in tissue donation for more than 30 years, but when her beloved husband Jay unexpectedly passed, she found herself looking at donation in a different way.
Jay was her biggest cheerleader and supported her career wholeheartedly, from dressing in the colors, to putting out blue and green Christmas lights during Donate Life Month, up until his final wish of giving of himself.
“Almost daily…in my own journey; 10, 20, 40 times a day, I say a little prayer for the recipients of my husband’s corneas and tissues,” Jennifer said.
For all April, Jennifer and other community leaders will honoring the gift of tissue, eye, and organ donation by sharing stories, encouraging others, and spreading awareness of tissue donation.
